Positions at NPC Media

NPC Media is rapidly expanding.  We are looking for people passionate about Media.  Please find below an overview of positions:

Presentation Coordinator

This roles works with the latest transmission automation technology and contribute towards the seamless broadcast to audiences all around Australia.

Key responsibilities include:

  • the accurate execution of daily presentation schedules.
  • preparation, checking and running of multiple transmission playlists
  • operation of NPC Media’s automated transmission systems, such as Imagine Device Automation and VIZ Graphics.
  • the application of the Television Code of Practice and legislation regarding closed caption requirements.
  • responding to breaking news scenarios as required.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • demonstrate an ability to apply a high level of attention to detail.
  • possess the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • demonstrate an ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines.
  • demonstrate an ability to operate effectively within a changing, fast-paced environment.
  • have the ability to work as part of a 24/7 rotating shift roster.

Content Services Operator

Working closely with other members of the team to ensure the high quality of our clients’ on-air content and the seamless broadcast of their content to their audience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • the ingesting of commercial, promotional and programme material into NPC Media’s playout systems.
  • merging closed captioning files to programmes.
  • preparing all scheduled media ready for transmission.
  • ensuring all ingested content meets our client’s standards
  • operation of EVS and IPDirector systems for turnaround of late material and backup of live programmes, including breaking news and updates

Required skills and experience:

  • certificate IV or BA in Media Production Techniques or similar
  • previous experience in broadcast operations to be viewed as an advantage.
  • high level of attention to detail
  • the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and ensure deadlines are met.
  • previous experience using various computer programs, coupled with the ability to adapt quickly to new technology.
  • the ability to work autonomously as well as part a team.

To be successful in this role the successful candidates will need to have the ability and the willingness the work on a 24/7 rotating roster.

Programme Previewer

Preparation of on air programmes to meet transmission deadlines, work with the Schedulers from Channel 9 and 7 to meet all their requirements. Soft segmenting, applying Secondaries, promo inserts, social media/twitter and much more…..

Key responsibilities include:

  • previewing programme material prior to transmission; including checks for content, quality and timing.
  • ensuring programmes are intact and on-air continuity is maintained at all times.
  • previewing for onscreen classification and promotional graphic integration into programmes.
  • adding relevant timing information to respective databases and sharing this with the relevant clients and stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • have previous previewing or related broadcast TV experience.
  • demonstrate an ability to apply a high level of attention to detail.
  • possess an understanding of picture composition and audio principles.
  • demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and ensure deadlines are met.
  • possess the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • have the ability to work as part of a 24/7 rotating shift roster.

Master Control Operator

If you are a technology geek that likes the idea of 

  • learning to understand how pieces of Television transmission equipment operate ranging from encoders to TV transmitters
  • setting up communications paths between remote locations, then this could be for you. 
  • telling your friends you saved the day by getting a television station back on-air

then this is for you!


This is not a creative role so; experience in Video Production won’t help. This is not an IT role; IT degrees won’t help much either.

  

Your duties will include:-

  • technical & quality monitoring of national television and      streaming broadcasts
  • operation of Transmitter Control systems nationally via remote      control
  • controlling the connectivity of television signals throughout      Australia
  • operation of broadcast equipment that processes and corrects      television signals
  • learning real-time and retrospective fault finding and restoring      the continuity of terrestrial and satellite services during failure of      transmission
  • liaison with third-party Video/Data service providers such as      Telstra & TPG as required.
  • set up and management of communications systems, both internal      & external.
  • set up of Outside Broadcasts signal paths pertaining to on-air,      such as Football, Cricket, etc.
  • coordinating the transfer of program material within the Networks      and other broadcast networks locally and internationally
  • working under real time constraints.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • have an interest in radio &/or television Broadcast and RF transmission.
  • a basic understanding of IP addressing and networking would be an advantage (Note: This is NOT an I.T. position).
  • an ability to demonstrate an understanding of video and audio compression systems and how this is achieved.
  • an ability to demonstrate that you understand what multiplexing of video, audio and data streams, actually means.
  • demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and ensure deadlines are met.
  • possess the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • have the ability to work as part of a 24/7 rotating shift roster.

Broadcast IT Technician

The Broadcast IT Technicians are primarily responsible for the first line support of the onsite Broadcast & IT technology systems.   Covering seven days the role ensures the smooth running of systems to allow the seamless provision of Broadcast, Media & OTT services for our customers.

  

Key responsibilities include 1st line support of:

  • broadcast playout automation control systems
  • media asset & content management systems
  • non-linear editing systems
  • transmission encoding & headend platform


Underpinning this application stack is the support of an associated generic IT stack of technologies:

  • a range of networked devices using diverse operating systems such as Windows, Linux and OS-X.
  • underlining IP Networks and networking infrastructure
  • a virtual machine layer
  • a media & IT storage layer
  • talkback system
  • initial high-level monitoring of NPC plant and facilities

The Broadcast IT Technician will also be expected to work with the 2nd line Engineers, taking ownership of minor project work that will involve implementing new technologies.


The right candidate should have:

  • one or more of the following qualifications: Engineering Degree, Diploma in Electrical or Communications Engineering or comparable qualification in the Broadcast or IT Industry.
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.
  • a flexible attitude to working irregular hours including weekends, public holidays and shift work.
